Lights, Camera, South Bay
Did you know the South Bay is basically Hollywood's backlot? Here are 5 places you’ve seen on screen that are right in our backyard. 🎬☀️ You don’t need to fight the crowds at Universal Studios to see Hollywood history. You can visit these iconic filming locations this weekend. From the teen dramas of the 90s to modern Oscar winners, the South Bay has been the backdrop for some of the biggest moments in cinema.
Whether you’re a "Set-Jetter" or just looking for a cool local weekend activity, here are the must-see filming spots in our neighborhood:
Torrance High School (The Ultimate High School): Probably the most famous high school in the world. It served as West Beverly High in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Sunnydale High in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Its classic architecture makes it a timeless stand-in for "Anywhere, USA."
The Hermosa Beach Pier (La La Land): Remember Ryan Gosling’s iconic "City of Stars" whistle? That was filmed right here on the Hermosa Pier. It’s also made appearances in The O.C. and the cult classic Point Break.
The Redondo Beach Pier (The O.C. & Pirates of the Caribbean): The "horseshoe" pier is a favorite for location scouts. It famously doubled as the Newport Pier in The O.C., and the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean was once docked here for filming.
Del Amo Fashion Center (Jackie Brown & Bad Santa): Quentin Tarantino loves Torrance. He filmed the famous bag-swap scene in Jackie Brown right here at the Del Amo Mall. It’s also the setting for the hilarious (and slightly dark) Bad Santa.
The El Segundo Power Plant (Transformers): If those massive blue and white stripes look familiar, it’s because Michael Bay loves them. The power plant played a key role in the first Transformers movie and several high-octane action sequels.
The South Bay isn't just a place to film; it’s a place to live. If you're looking for a home that's "camera-ready," I know these neighborhoods better than anyone. Give me a shout: contact me.
